Police: Three arrested, two at large after chase through Cortland County

WHITNEY POINT, N.Y. – Three men were arrested on charges related to identity theft following a police chase Friday that spanned two central New York counties.

State police say the chase began Friday on I-81 in Cortland County after troopers attempted to pull over a 2015 black Kia Sorrento. The chase ended on the northbound ramp of I-81 at Whitney Point.

Five suspects then fled the vehicle on foot, and police called in deputies from Cortland and Broome counties, as well as search dogs from Johnson City, to try and locate the suspects.

Three men were arraigned in Fenton Town Court and taken to Broome County Jail pending a bail hearing. They were charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony.

The suspects were also wanted for questioning in Oneida County for suspected bank fraud, according to police.

Police are still searching for the remaining two suspects who fled the vehicle.

Police say they continue to investigate numerous leads related to the suspects involving fraudulent credit card use and identity theft.
