At around 5:43 p.m. Sunday, sheriff's deputies responded to State Route 41 in the town of Willet for a motor vehicle accident.

Deputies say Nathan B. McDonald, 28, had been in an accident but fled the scene. He was located as he was being picked up by a relative at a nearby residence, deputies said.

Authorities said McDonald failed to negotiate a left hand turn and left the roadway, making contact with a utility pole and coming to rest on the edge of a creek.

He faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, unsafe speed, no seat belt and failure to maintain lane (all violations).

McCutcheon was released on an appearance ticket to reappear in Willet Town Court on Dec. 23 at 6 p.m.
