Portraits exhibition to be held at Cortland's Beard Gallery

CORTLAND, N.Y. – An exhibition of new portraits by Finger Lakes artist Kevin Harwood will be on display at the Beard Gallery in Cortland from April 1 through April 29.

The exhibition, titled MEMORIES, is a collection of paintings and drawings inspired by the artist’s children.

“While going through some boxes of family photographs, it occurred to me just how many of these images portrayed moments or ‘Memories’ that I had almost forgotten.” said Harwood. “Having recently completed portraits of each of our three children, I decided that my latest exhibition should be inspired by the three individuals who have brought me and my wife so much joy over the years.”

The collection includes works in watercolor, acrylic, gouache and egg tempera as well as drawings in pencil, charcoal and pen & ink.

“I really love our children and, having drawn or painted them many times, as well as watching them grow from tiny babies to young adults, I know their every feature and expression almost by heart,” Harwood said. “Working on the pieces in this exhibit not only allowed me to revisit many of our happiest memories but has resulted in a visual history, which goes beyond its value as a collection of artwork.”

MEMORIES will run from April 1 through April 29 at the Beard Gallery, 9 Main Street, Cortland, NY.

There will be an opening reception on April 1 from 5:30 pm until 7 pm. The first floor gallery is open Monday through Friday between 10 am and 4 pm. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Beard Gallery is a collaboration between the Cortland Downtown Partnership, the Cultural Council of Cortland County and SUNY Cortland.
