Donation funds vest for Cortland County sheriff's K9

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland County Sheriff's Office K9 "Frenky" will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

K9 Frenky's vest will be embroidered with the sentiment, "In memory of K9 Rocco Pittsburgh Bureau of Police," according to Capt. Robert Derksen with the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

The other K9 in the sheriff's office—known to those in the department as "Fredy"—also received a donated vest from Vested Interest in September.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a charity based in East Taunton, Mass., whose mission is to "provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States."

The sheriff's office expects to receive the vest within eight to ten weeks.
