Marathon man charged with DWI following accident

MARATHON, N.Y. — A Cortland County man was charged with driving while intoxicated after being involved in a property damage accident Friday evening, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

At around 10:10 p.m., deputies responded to Merrill Creek Road in the town of Marathon for a vehicle complaint that was involved in a property damage accident.

The driver was identified as Johnathon A. Irwin, 31, of Marathon. He was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, deputies said.

Irwin was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI and DWI, both misdemeanors, as well as violations including driving across hazard markings, driving with an uninspected motor vehicle and failing to keep right.

He was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Marathon Town Court next month.
