Dryden man accused of attacking people, resisting arrest

DRYDEN, N.Y. — A Tompkins County man was arrested on a felony assault charge Friday after police were called to a domestic dispute in the town of Dryden.

At around 10:12 p.m., state police in Ithaca responded to a Tompkins County 911 report of a dispute at a home on Bills Way in Dryden.

An investigation determined that during a dispute, 42-year-old William B. Oliver pushed one victim and choked another, police said. He then damaged a door and struck one of the victims with a piece of wood before walking away.

He tried to run away when police arrived but was quickly caught and handcuffed, troopers said.

Oliver was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanors of resistring arrest, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment, a violation.

He was arraigned in Groton Town Court and taken to Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 property bond.

His next court date in Dryden is scheduled for Sep. 29.
