Cortland man charged in August rape incident

CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. — A Cortland man was arrested last week in connection with a rape incident that reported occurred in late August, the sheriff's office said.

Casey M. Cleary, 22, of Cortland, has been charged with first-degree rape, a class B felony; first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony, and two counts of sexual misconduct, a class A misdemeanor.

He was arrested Oct. 12 after a woman told investigators that she had been sexually assaulted by him at a residence in the town of Cortlandville in the latter part of August 2016. The victim and Cleary were known to each other, the sheriff's office said.

Cleary, who was temporarily residing in the Rochester area, was located by authorities in Monroe County. He was turned over to investigators from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

Cleary was arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court and taken to Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He is due back in Cortlandville Town Court on Oct. 31.
