MARATHON, N.Y. — A Cortland County man was arrested Thursday after being accused of striking a woman with a hammer during a domestic dispute in the village of Marathon.

At around 3 p.m. Thursday, investigators from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to the home of Norman F. Fink, 45, on Broome Street in Marathon.

An investigation revealed that during the early morning hours, Fink became involved in a verbal dispute with a woman who also lives at the home. The victim told investigators that Fink struck her in the arm and leg with a carpenter's hammer.

She was able to leave the home and seek assistance from a friend before reporting the incident to the sheriff's office.

Fink was arraigned in Marathon Town Court on two felony charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon and taken to Cortland County Jail with no bail set. He is due back in Marathon Town Court next month.
