CORTLAND, N.Y. — Cortland Regional Medical Center continues to expand its clinical services with the installation of its new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine. This machine, located at the main hospital, will replace the West Road Outpatient magnet.

Purchased from Siemens®, the 1.5T MAGNETOM Aera performs one of the highest quality MRI exams available today.  Its ultra- short, 70 cm open-bore design offers a more spacious, less claustrophobic feeling and easier access for patients with limited mobility. Additionally, the decreased noise and increased comfort means sharper images due to less-anxiety related movement.

“This new MRI enables us to offer our patients a faster, less stressful exam while giving their healthcare provider the highest quality images in a shorter time,” said Debbie King, Director of Imaging Services at Cortland Regional, “Having this service  at the hospital offers our entire healthcare community access to cutting edge technology for even greater patient care.”

This new machine will allow physicians to perform extensive scans ranging from breast imaging and MRI-guided breast biopsies to neurological, orthopedic scans and more.

Planning and building for the new machine began last summer.  The permanent building that will house the magnet unit will be installed, Thursday, November 10.  The magnet will arrive and be installed on Tuesday, November 15 around 10:00 a.m. During these times part of the West Main parking lot and all of the Outpatient Surgery parking lot will be unavailable.

The new MRI will be available to patients beginning on December 12, 2016. For more information, please call our Imaging Services Department at 607.756.3793 or contact your primary care physician.
