Student reports forcible touching incident on SUNY Cortland campus

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A SUNY Cortland student has reported a forcible touching incident to the university police department that is alleged to have occurred in early February.

An alert issued by SUNY Cortland on Monday states that the student told campus police that the incident occurred on Feb. 4 in a residence hall on campus. The student reported the incident to a campus reporting office, the alert said.

The suspect was known to the victim prior to the incident.

In most cases, forcible touching occurs when a person touches the sexual parts of another person "for the purpose of degrading or abusing such person," according to New York State Penal Law.

It's unclear if the suspect will face criminal charges.
