Memorial service planned for TC3 student killed in Cortlandville crash

Editor's Note: The following announcement was issued by Tompkins Cortland Community College Tuesday morning.

Dryden, New York – A memorial service for Tompkins Cortland Community College student Roberto Eduardo Mata Lopez will be held Wednesday, July 26, at 3 p.m. in the College’s Student Center.

Roberto died in a motor vehicle accident while a passenger in a taxi returning to campus in the early morning hours of July 20. The driver of the cab was also killed in the accident, and seven other Tompkins Cortland students were injured.

The memorial service is designed to give the entire College community a chance to share memories of Roberto. In addition to prayers from local clergy, President Orinthia Montague will provide remarks.

There will be opportunities for anyone in attendance to speak or write a message for the family, and students will offer a song. The ceremony will conclude with a symbolic releasing of balloons to the heavens.

The community is welcome to attend.
