Marathon man charged with sexual abuse, forcible touching

MARATHON, N.Y. - A Cortland County man was arrested this week after being accused of inappropriately touching a female victim in the town of Marathon, the Cortland County Sheriff's Office said.

Jeremy E. Layton, 38, of Marathon, faces misdemeanor charges of third-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Layton is accused of touching a female victim on Tuesday, Oct. 24, while in the town of Marathon. The victim was not physically injured as a result of the incident, authorities said.

Layton was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a police interview. He was transported to Marathon Town Court and released to the Cortland County Alternatives to Incarceration program.

He is scheduled to appear in Marathon Town Court on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
