Three point barrage gives Ithaca women's basketball victory vs. Cortland

ITHACA, N.Y. – Annie Giannone scored 11 points and hit three of Ithaca's 12 3-pointers as the Bombers defeated visiting Cortland, 78-58, in a non-league women's basketball game.

Kerry McHugh (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) led Cortland (0-3) with 18 points. She connected on 5-of-12 shots from 3-point range. Shelby Dugan (Watervliet) and Justin Crespo (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) added seven points apiece. Kristy Vitucci (Deer Park) led the Red Dragons with eight rebounds and four assists. Crespo grabbed five boards, and McHugh and Taylor Miller (Freeport) finished with three assists each.

Giannone made 3-of-6 shots from behind the arc and also shared the team lead with five assists for Ithaca (4-1). Meghan Pickell and Sara Jackson scored 10 points each, Cassidy O'Malley totaled nine points and six rebounds, and Julie Yacovoni shared the team lead with six rebounds and five assists. Eight different Bombers made at least one 3-pointer.

Cortland trailed 8-0 just over five minutes into the game and 19-11 after one quarter. The Red Dragons were within five at 26-21 on a Miller layup with 7:31 left in the second quarter, but Ithaca scored the next eight points, including treys by Meghan Mazzella and Giannone. Ithaca led 42-27 at halftime and 68-39 after three quarters. Cortland outscored the hosts 19-10 in the fourth.

Cortland will host Elmira in a non-league matchup Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
