Officials investigate fatal UTV crash in Homer

HOMER, N.Y. — The Cortland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal UTV crash that occurred in the town of Homer Saturday morning.

At around 11 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to an accident involving an off-road vehicle in a wooded area between Vern King Road and Route 11 in Homer.

The operator of the vehicle, who has not been identified, was driving on an off-road trail to access a hunting camp in the woods when the vehicle left the trail and struck a tree, ejecting the driver from the vehicle, according to Capt. Robert Derksen in the sheriff's office.

Cortland County Coroner Whitney Meeker pronounced the vehicle operator dead at the scene.

The person's name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

TLC Ambulance and the Homer Fire Department assisted the sheriff's office at the scene.
