The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning along several counties within the Central N.Y. area, including Cortland.
There will be a 50 percent chance for strong and severe scattered thunderstorms later this afternoon. Mainly after 3:30 p.m.
However, the primary threat will be the damaging wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour that the storms will most likely produce.
Frequent lightning and heavy downpours will also be possible.
The storms will then begin to diminish later in the evening at around 8 p.m.
