City man arrested on child porn charges

A city man was arrested on two felony charges for possessing child pornography this week, according to the state police.

Christopher M. Hines, 47, of 9 Chestnut St., was arrested for possessing a sexual performance by a child under the age of 16, promoting the sexual performance of a child under the age of 17 and second-degree unlawful surveillance, all felonies, on Wednesday at the Homer state police barracks.

State Police did not release any further information.

The charge of second-degree unlawful surveillance accuses someone of secretly viewing, recording or broadcasting media of another person.

Hines is a volunteer member of the Cortland Fire Department. Acting Fire Chief Wayne Friedman said this afternoon that Hines was placed on administrative leave after his arrest and the department is investigating the matter.

Hines was arraigned, sent to the Cortland County Correctional Facility and released on bail. He is set to reappear in Homer Town Court at a later date.
