The #5 seed Marathon girls opened sectional play yesterday, Wednesday October 23rd, after defeating the #12 seed Worcester (6-0) at home.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 22nd, but was postponed due to extreme weather conditions.

Brooke Tillotson opened up the scoring for the Olympians three minutes into the game. Delta Barber followed 2 minutes later with her first goal of the game as well.

Another 2 minutes later, Abby Tallman had a beautiful cross across the box that was headed in by Marathon’s Madison Clark to give the Olympians the 3-0 lead just 7 minutes into the game. Brooke Tillotson put her second goal of the half in with 21 minutes remaining the Olympians ended the half up 4-0.

As the second half began, Worcester possessed the ball for the first 5 minutes until the Olympians stepped up to regain control.

The two second half goals were scored by Brenna Keller that went in the goal off a Worcester player, and Delta Barber netted her second goal of the game from an outside shot over the keepers head.

"Today was a nicely played game by our team," said Marathon head coach Elizabeth Duncan. "We played well together and were smart in our decisions. I think if we play at this level moving forward we can be tough to beat. I’m glad our team, and especially our seniors could end their season at home on a high note."

The Olympians will be playing against #4 seed Roxbury at 3:30 p.m. on the road tomorrow, Friday October 25th for a chance to advance to the Sectional Semi-Finals.
