Cortland County High School Sectional Playoffs Update

With the end of the first week of the Sectional play, the majority of the remaining teams are heading into their Semi-Finals and Finals match-ups this week.

There are a total of four schools in Cortland County in Section III (Cortland, Homer, McGraw and Cincinnatus) and there is one school in Section IV (Marathon).

Following, are all of the teams remaining in Sectional play along with their upcoming schedule:

Marathon Olympians-

Boys Soccer

The #1 seed Marathon Boys soccer team will be heading into the Semi-Finals of the Section IV Class D Playoffs this week.

The team had a first round BYE and played their first Sectional game of the season this past Saturday October 26th, where they defeated Edmeston Central 4-0 in the Quarter-Final round.

The Olympians will be traveling to the Oneonta Hall of Fame Fields to take on #5 seed Margaretville in the Semi-Final round of Sectionals on Wednesday, October 30th. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Girls Soccer

After two home wins in the Sectional Playoffs last week, the Lady Olympians will be playing in the Section IV Class D Semi-Finals this week.

Marathon defeated Worcester 6-0 in the first round and then won 1-0 in double overtime against Belleville-Henderson in the Quarter-Finals.

The #4 seed Lady Olympians will be playing #1 seed Schenevus tomorrow Tuesday, October 29th at the Oneonta Hall of Fame Fields. The game is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m.

Field Hockey

The Marathon girls field hockey team will be making a Section IV Class C Semi-Finals appearance tomorrow Tuesday, October 29th.

The Olympians started the postseason off by defeating #5 seed Moravia in the first round of playoffs at home.

The Olympians will be playing their last home game of the season tomorrow as they play Greene at 3:30 p.m. for a chance to advance to the Section IV Finals.

McGraw Eagles-

Girls Soccer

After a 1-0 win against Sackets Harbor in the first round and a 2-0 win against Belleville-Henderson in the quarter finals, the undefeated McGraw girls varsity soccer team will be playing in the Section III Class D Semi-Finals on Wednesday, October 30th.

The Lady Eagles will be playing against #1 seed Poland for a chance at the Sectional Finals.

Wednesday's game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Chittenango High School.

Cincinnatus Lions-

Boys Soccer

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29th, the #5 seeded Lions will be traveling to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School for the Section III Class D Semi-Finals to face the #9 seeded Fabius-Pompey.

The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The winner will face either #3 seed Poland or #7 seed Lyme in the Finals.

Girls Soccer

After a close double overtime 3-2 win against Watertown in the Quarter-Finals this past Thursday, October 24th, the Lady Tigers will be playing against #1 seed Central Square in the Semi-Final round of the Section III Class A Playoffs.

The game will be held at Chittenango High School tomorrow Tuesday, October 29th. Starting time is at 5:30 p.m.

Field Hockey

The #3 seeded Cortland Field Hockey team will be playing their first post season game tomorrow Tuesday, October 29th against #2 seeded Holland Patent.

The Lady Tigers finished their regular season with a 7-6-2 overall record.

The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m at Central Valley Academy (CVA).

Homer Trojans-

Volleyball

After a great 15-3 season for the Homer varsity volleyball team, the lady Trojans are expected to make it as one of the top seeds of the Sectional Playoffs.

Volleyball Sectional playoffs brackets have yet to be released by Section III. Brackets are scheduled to come out tomorrow in the afternoon.
