Marathon wins over Groton: Castellot celebrates 18th birthday with a career-high!

Last night, the Marathon boys varsity basketball team got their first win of the regular season after defeating Groton (75-60) at home.

The game started out with Groton connecting on several easy baskets and getting an early 8-point lead.

However, Diego Castellot got hot at the end of the first quarter and connected on three 3-pointers to close the gap to three (13-16) before coming into the second quarter. After that, Castellot got hot again and connected for 11-points to give Marathon the early halftime lead (36-33). 

In the second half Castellot became a scoring machine, with him being unstoppable driving to the basket. He netted a total of 15-points in the 3rd quarter to give Marathon a comfortable (59-46) lead going into the fourth quarter. 

Castellot celebrated his 18th birthday by finishing the game with a career high of 38-points to go along with his 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Conor Holland went 6-6 from the free throw line and had 8-points in the fourth to help seal the 15-point win. Owen Hoyt played great defense in the 3rd and 4th quarters and netted 7 boards along with 4 assists, while Andrew Tillotson led the team with eight rebounds.

Up next, the Olympians will be going on the road tomorrow, Friday, December 6th to go against Seton Catholic as part of the Stop DWI Winter Classic Tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m.
