Recently, SUNY Cortland men's basketball sophomore forward Austin Grunder was recognized at the end of the week of December 8th, as he has been named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.

The D3hoops.com team recognizes the top five players nationally each week. Grunder has been recognized as one of three frontcourt players that were recently chosen.

"It feels great to be honored this way honestly," said Grunder. "It shows all of the hard work that I've put into the game. It's really an honor to be chosen as one of the National players of the week and it also serves as motivation for the rest of the season."

Throughout his two opening SUNYAC games against Geneseo (December 6th) and Brockport (December 7th), Grunder averaged 28-points, 17.5 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.

According to D3hoops, Grunder currently leads the nation in rebounding in Division III with 18.3 rebounds per game and is also 25th nationally in scoring, averaging 23-points per game.

"I'm just doing whatever I can to help my team out and if that means scoring, rebounding, or playing defense, then that's what I am going to do," Grunder stated.

The Cortland Red Dragons 2-2 overall and 1-1 in SUNYAC, will  be participating in the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout that is taking place in Miami Florida on December 15th and 17th.

"This trip will help us build a better camaraderie and a better brotherhood within the team," Grunder said. "Being around Miami, there is obviously a lot of opportunities to have fun, but it's also time to get back to business and play a couple of games and furthering our connection on and off the court."

The Red Dragons will be playing Eastern University of Pennsylvania tonight, Sunday December 15th at 7 p.m. and Gwynedd Mercy of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, December 17th at 6 p.m.

We will be updating the scores of the games through our twitter page.
