Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Wednesday, December 18, 2019:

A cold front will move through the area this morning. Behind the front, numerous flurries and squalls will develop and continue throughout the day.

These squalls will have intense snow rates that will reduce visibility to near zero at times. A quick coating of snow on the roads will also make travel tricky at times.

However, between the squalls, there could be some breaks of sunshine.

Snow accumulations will be on the order of an inch or two, though it depends on exactly how many squalls move through, how large they are, and how long they last.

Temperatures will start out around 20 degrees, rise into the mid 20s by lunchtime, but then fall back closer to 20 degrees during the afternoon.

West and northwest winds will blow between 12-17 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph. High gusts will especially be possible during the squalls.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Thursday: Morning lake effect gradually diminishes. Cold, with morning lows in the mid single digits and afternoon highs in the mid teens.

Friday: A couple early clouds, then mostly sunny skies. Moring lows just above zero. Afternoon highs near 20 degrees.

Saturday: A mix of clouds and some sun, but no precipitation expected. Morning a few degrees below zero. High temperatures in the upper 20s.

Sunday: Rather sunny. No precipitation. Temperatures start around 10 degrees. Afternoon highs in the upper 30s.
