It was a tough first round sectional loss for the McGraw varsity girls basketball team last night. The Lady Eagles lost 30-41 to Watertown.

The Lady Eagles started the opening quarter down 9-5. Junior Karissa Wilbur hit two 3-pointers by the end of the quarter to give McGraw a 13-9 lead.

“We knew that they were going to be a tough team, and that they were going to be quick and athletic,” said McGraw Head Coach Jason Wilbur. “We wanted to keep the game slow and play our game.”

Watertown took the lead in the second quarter, and never looked back. The Eagles trailed 16-22 at the half.

Watertown came into the fourth with a full-court press that would tire out the Eagles’ incomplete roster due to injuries, and win the game.

The Eagles were led by Karissa Wilbur with 13 points on the night, while Emily Fish scored nine.

McGraw ended the season with a 12-8 overall record.

“I’m very happy with our season,” stated Coach Wilbur. “Our girls came out and showed me great effort. They worked hard all season long. I can't say enough about this group.”
