It was a difficult game for the McGraw Eagles last night, as they fell short to the #2 seed Lyme on the road in the Sectional Quarter Finals(46-57).

The Eagles had a tough first half, with McGraw’s leading scorer Caleb Smith and starting point guard Devon Ackley getting into foul trouble in the opening quarter. Smith had three fouls, and Ackley had two fouls in the first quarter.

With the starting group back together in the third quarter, the Eagles battled back. McGraw tied the game 33-33 going into the fourth quarter.

“We rebounded well and were able to score some easy transition buckets,” said McGraw Head Coach Derek Allen

McGraw’s momentum continued, as they took a six point lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter, until Smith and Ackley picked up their fifth fouls. Lyme took advantage of the fact, tied the game at 42-42, and never looked back.

“Without our primary ball handlers, we had a few costly turnovers, and struggled to get into our offense” said Coach Allen

Evan Ignatowski led the Eagles with 13 points, while Xiao Lin recorded 12 points and seven rebounds.

Lyme was led by Isaiah Wilson with 27 points.

“It was an amazing run for these seniors,” stated Coach Allen. “We showed a lot of heart as a team to battle back and take the lead in the fourth quarter. Our starters really outplayed their starters when we were able to have the main group on the floor. Foul trouble made this difficult.”

The Eagles ended the season with a 15-7 overall record.
