Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, April 26

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, April 26, 2020:

Today’s weather will be interesting to watch unfold along a razor thin margin between two paths.

Low pressure will track northeast from the Ohio Valley, then redevelop along the East Coast. Precipitation will become widespread and steady over our area as a result, especially this afternoon and evening.

The big question will be whether or not it becomes just cold enough for snow. If there is snow, accumulations will be highly dependent on elevation, with the highest hilltops at the most risk. There is an outside chance, though, that those areas could see several inches.

Most likely, though, will be primarily rain until some snow mixes in for the evening with minor accumulations in the hills, and no accumulation at lower elevations.

Temperatures will be at their warmest this morning, starting out in the 40s. An afternoon drop into the 30s will take place, with just a degree or two being the difference between rain and snow.

Winds will start from the east before turning to the northeast most of the day. A further turn to the north is likely this evening. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Monday: Cloudy with lingering rain and snow showers. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 30s.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows near 30. Afternoon lows in the low 50s.

Wednesday: Increasing clouds. A few late showers. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Thursday: Periods of rain. Windy, especially early. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs in the low 50s.
