Cortland Weather Outlook: Tuesday, September 15

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, September 15, 2020:

High pressure will be firmly in control of the region today, leading to a cold start but a pleasant afternoon.

Clear skies and calm winds overnight have temperatures in the low 40s and even upper 30s this morning. Temperatures will be quick to moderate though, warming through the 50s and into the 60s before noon. Afternoon highs should top out in the mid 60s.

Skies will be clear, yet our sunshine will be less intense than it typically would. This will be due to large amounts of smoke high in the atmosphere from the wildfires in the west. Instead of blue skies, expect a hazy white color, followed by a vibrant, red sunset.

The smoke will stay far from the surface, so there are no air quality concerns.

Winds will be nearly calm through the morning but will turn to the south at about 5 mph for the afternoon. Top gusts will be around 15 mph.

The south winds will keep temperatures from falling as far tonight, with most areas staying near or above 50.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Wednesday: Lots of sunshine filtered by smoke. Morning lows near 50. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a few scattered showers. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Friday: A mix of sun and clouds. Morning lows near 40. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy. Some areas of frost possible early. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.
