Sheriff: Truxton man arrested for 2nd degree assault charges

On Thursday, September 17th, 2020, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address located in the Town of Truxton for a report of a physical altercation that had occurred at a separate location in the Town of Truxton earlier in the afternoon.

After interviewing the victim of the altercation by members of the Sheriff’s Office it was determined that Paul J. Maher Jr. had been involved in a verbal dispute that turned physical with the adult male victim who had been struck several times in the head and body. The victim, a 69 year old male, was transported to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center where he was treated and released as a result of the physical altercation.  Several witnesses to the altercation were identified and interviewed during the investigation.

The defendant was contacted and turned himself in at the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office on September 29th,2020, after the investigation was complete, in which time he was charged with the below listed charge and arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment process and released on his own recognizance.

The defendant was given a future court date of October 28th, 2020 at 4:00 PM in the Truxton Town Court for further proceedings.
