Cortland Weather Outlook: Saturday, December 5

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Saturday, December 5, 2020:

A strong low pressure system along the New England coast will be too far away for direct impacts, but steady north and northwest winds behind the low will keep our weather cool and cloudy with some lake flakes.

Winds will be more northerly this morning before turning to the northwest this afternoon. Morning wind speeds will be 5-10 mph while afternoon winds will blow at 10-15 mph. Top gusts, coming during the afternoon, will be around 30 mph.

A few snow showers will be possible this morning and early in the afternoon, but most of the lake effect will be to the west. As winds turn, the lake effect will drift east.

Once the snow reaches Cortland County, it should stick around into the evening and overnight. None of the snow should be overly heavy though, with a coating in lower elevations and an inch or two in the hills.

Temperatures will not move much today, only rising a couple degrees for a high in the mid 30s. Upper 20s are expected this evening with mid 20s overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Sunday: Cloudy. Light snow showers linger through the morning. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Monday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with some late sun. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.
