Cortland County High School Sports Game Recaps (March 31st)

Here are some local high school varsity game recaps from Wednesday’s games:

Homer Varsity Football vs. Chittenango

The Homer Trojans defeated Chittenango 55-6 at home on their first game of the shortened season. 

The Trojans started things off with a 28-0 lead at the end of the half. Homer would then continue to establish their dominance on the field in the second half to win the game.

Homer’s Andrew VanPatten led the Trojan’s with 3 touchdowns and 208 rushing yards. He also had 1 catch for 10 yards. Homer ended the game with 3 additional rushing touchdowns from Jakob Denkenberger, David Morse, and Damani Durham.

Quarterback Jake Calabro threw 2 touchdown passes; one to Colin Perks for 18 yards and another to Sam Sorenson for 20 yards. 

Chittenango’s lone touchdown of the game came from a 28 yard fumble return. 

Cortland Varsity Boys Football vs. Dryden

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Dryden 36-6 Wednesday night. The Tigers had an outstanding game on both sides of the field, scoring 18 points each half. 

Noah Armstrong led Cortland with 2 touchdowns on the night. One from a 44 yard pass from Colin Williams and another from an 80 yard kickoff return. 

Other scorers for Cortland include Jaden Fitch (49 yard pass from Colin Williams), Colin Williams (5 yard run), Chris MacDuffee (10 yard run),and Riley Sabin (Fumble recovery in the endzone). 

Cincinnatus Varsity Girls Soccer vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions were able to get a 1-0 win over the DeRuyter Rockets on the road. 

It was a close and scoreless first half with tough field conditions because of the rain. However, Cincinnatus was able to score in the second half with Jarisa Temple scoring for the Lions. She was assisted by Kyla Sustad. 

Cincinnatus ended the game with 24 shots and 5 saves; while DeRuyter had 7 shots and 11 saves.

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated DeRuyter 8-1 at home. 

The Lions took control of the field early, with them going into the half with a 5-0 lead. 

Cincinnatus was able to keep their offense of momentum going in the second half to win the game. 

According to Cincinnatus Head Coach Gordy Brown, “great team effort and unselfish play by all led to many scoring opportunities.”

Scott Schuyler and Cason Stafford led the Lions with 2 goals a piece. Stafford also had 3 assists, while Schuyler had 2 assists. 

Other scorers and assisters for Cincinantus include Jake Smith (1 goal & 1 assist ), Jordan Larrabee (1 goal), Owen Delepine (1 goal), Kooper Vosburg (1 goal). Canden Stafford (1 assist).

Riley Glisson scored the only goal of the Rockets off an assist from Camren Daley.

Cincinnatus ended the game with 33 shots, 10 corners, and 4 saves; while DeRuyter had 6 shots, 1 corner and 11 saves.
