Cortland Weather Outlook: Friday, April 30

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Friday, April 30, 2021:

A raw, windy day is ahead for the area as a strong low pressure system meanders over northern New England.

This is the same low that brought yesterday’s steady rain. Precipitation will not be as widespread or continuous as yesterday, though.

Instead, on and off showers will be possible throughout the day. The morning has a higher chance for mostly dry conditions before showers increase for the afternoon.

By this evening, it should get cold enough to change some of the rain over to snow showers. Accumulations should be no more than a light coating, mostly over higher elevations.

The cold air will be moving in on strong northwest winds. Winds will peak during the afternoon with speeds of 20 mph and gusts of 50-55 mph.

Temperatures will only rise a few degrees today, topping out around 50 during the late morning and midday hours. A slow drop through the 40s is expected this afternoon, followed by a quicker drop to the mid 30s this evening.

Through the nighttime hours, temperatures should stay steady in the mid 30s, though a few localized cold pockets could end up closer to or just below the freezing point of 32 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:
