The Cortland Purple Tigers and the Homer Trojans won their quarterfinal games of their respective Sectional Tournaments on Tuesday (June 8th). Cortland defeated Oswego, while Homer took down Westhill.
Both Cortland County teams are now headed to the semifinals of their Sectional Tournaments. Semifinal games are scheduled to be played on Thursday, June 10th.

Cortland vs. Oswego
The #1 seeded Tigers defeated the #9 seeded Oswego Buccaneers with a score of 6-4 to advance to the semifinals of the Section III Class A Sectional Tournament.
Oswego started things off by scoring 2 runs by the end of the third inning. However, Cortland’s offense sparked up at the bottom of the fourth inning to score all 6 of their runs.
The Buccaneers put 2 more runs on the board in the sixth inning in hopes of a comeback, but Cortland would then hold them off in the seventh to win the game.
Cortland’s offense was led by Tyler Blake (1 run, 1 homerun, & 4 RBI’s), Kooper Knabe (1 run & 2 RBI’s), Jason Carr (1 run), Adam Minnard, (1 run), Caden Albright (1 run), and Max Gambitta (1 run).
Cortland’s Jason Carr also threw 3 strikeouts from the mound. Caden Congdon threw 1 additional strikeout for Cortland.
Cortland will play their semifinal round game on Thursday (June 10th) against the winner of today's (June 9th) matchup between #4 seed Christian Brothers Academy and #5 seed New Hartford. The game between Christian Brothers Academy and New Hartford was supposed to be played yesterday (June 8th), but it was postponed due to weather conditions.
Homer vs. Westhill
The #4 seeded Trojans took down the #5 seeded Westhill Warriors with a score of 8-1 to advance to the semifinal round of the Section III Class 1-B Sectional Tournament.
With it being all tied up (1-1) at the end of the top of the fourth inning, the Trojans fired up their offense to score 7 runs to put the game out of reach for the Warriors.
Homer’s offense was led by Jacob Atkins (1 run & 2 RBI’s), Jed Brazo (1 run & 2 RBI’s), Michael Grant (1 run & 1 RBI), Joey Case ( 1 run), Zander Johnson (1 run), Jon Barnes (1 run), Ian Gilbert (1 run), Tanner Douglass (1 run), and Richard Lambert (1 RBI).
Both Mitchell Earle and Jed Brazo took charge of the pitching mound for the Trojans. Brazo threw 4 strikeouts, and Earle the 1 strikeout.
Homer will play against the #1 seeded South Jefferson in the semifinal round of the Sectional Tournament on Thursday (June 10th).
