Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, September 30

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, September 30, 2021:

September will end with chilly temperatures and lake effect clouds and showers.

North-northwest winds will continue to blow steadily today with speeds up to 10 mph. Top gusts will be between 20-25 mph.

These winds will keep importing cool, Canadian air. As this air crosses the Great Lakes, lake effect clouds and some showers are being formed.

This will continue throughout the day. Sunshine will be very limited, if there are any breaks at all. It will not rain all day, but a few on and off showers will be possible at any time. The best chance for rain will come through the morning hours.

Temperatures will be well below average, even for this time of the year. Highs will only top out in the mid 50s.

The wind will shift this evening, becoming more westerly. Without the moisture from Lake Ontario, skies will gradually clear. After such a cool afternoon, it will not take long for temperatures to fall well into the 40s.

By Friday morning, a few localized areas could end up in the 30s with some frost. Widespread frost is not expected, though.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: Rather cloudy. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Saturday: Sun early, then thickening clouds. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs near 70.

Sunday: Clouds, some sun, and occasional rain showers. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.

Monday: Showers and perhaps thunderstorms likely. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.
