Cortland Weather Outlook: Tuesday, October 19

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, October 19, 2021:

After a cold start, today should warm up thanks to abundant sunshine and an increase in warm air aloft.

Winds above the surface are already out of the southwest, bringing in warmer air aloft. At the surface, winds will be more westerly through the day with speeds around 10 mph. Wind gusts may go over 25 mph at times, but should stay under 30 mph.

The shift in the wind direction has ended the lake effect for our area and today will have start to finish sunshine instead. Even thin wisps of cirrus cloud will be very rare today.

Afternoon highs will push into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. This is still a bit above the average highs for today despite not being as warm as much of last week.

Clear skies will continue into the nighttime hours. However, with the wind remaining at around 10 mph and warmer air building in aloft, it will not be nearly as cold tonight.

Evening temperatures will drop to around 50 degrees. Overnight, the temperature should remain steady or could even rise a little.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Wednesday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows near 50. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.
