Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Basketball, Ice Hockey, & Wrestling (January 4th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Jamesville-Dewitt

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a tough game against Jamesville-Dewitt with a score of 42-54 at home Tuesday night. 

With this loss, the Tigers now hold a 5-3 overall record. 

Cortland was led by Max Gambitta (16 points, 5 rebounds & 2 steals), Marvin Bell (13 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks & 2 steals), and Emerson Johnson (10 points, 3 assists & 3 rebounds).

Jamesville-Dewitt was led by Brendan Kohberger (15 points), Benjamin Schallinger (12 points), and Anthony Stickle (12 points). 

Cortland’s next game will be on the road against Auburn on Friday (January 7th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Phoenix

The Homer Trojans lost a close game against Phoenix (42-51) on Tuesday.

Homer was led by Evan Butts (13 points), Jon Barnes (12 points), and Wyatt Wilbur (12 points). 

Phoenix was led by Zachary Ashby (22 points) and Johnathan Dion (16 points). 

With this loss, the Trojans have fallen to a 2-4 record. 

Up next, Homer will take on Chittenango on the road this Friday (January 7th) at 7:15pm.  

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Hannibal

The Homer Lady Trojans defeated Phoenix 45-42 on the road Tuesday night. 

With this win, the Trojans are now 5-2 overall. 

The Trojans were led by Gracie Patriarco (16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 8 steals & 4 blocks), Keira Miller (10 points, 9 rebounds & 3 steals), and Madison Singleton (10 points, 5 rebounds & 1 steal). 

Hannibal was led by Julia Shortslef (20 points) and Samantha Emmons (12 points). 

Up next, Homer is scheduled to play Solvay on the road this Thursday (January 6th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Canastota

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost 10-30 against Canastota. 

Cincinnatus was led by Carissa Schuyler (4 points), Kaedence Latta (2 points), Justice Crane (2 points), and Gabriella Taylor (2 points). 

Canastota was led by Emma Wood (14 points) and Kalista Betz (6 points). 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be against New York Mills at home this Thursday (January 6th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Oswego

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles defeated Oswego 8-6 Tuesday night.

Up next, Cortland-Homer will host Auburn on Thursday (January 6th) at the JM McDonald Sports Complex at 7pm.
