Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Basketball, Ice Hockey, & Wrestling (January 25th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Solvay 

The Homer Trojans defeated Solvay with a close score of 58-56 Tuesday night in order to improve to a 5-7 overall record. 

The Trojans were led by Jon Barnes (19 points & 4 rebounds),  Wyatt Wilbur (11 points, 9 rebounds & 2 steals), and Evan Butts (10 points & 10 rebounds). 

Solvay was led by Gerold Bean (18 points) and Tommy Venturini (14 points). 

Up next, Homer will take on Fowler on the road tonight (January 26th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Jamesville-Dewitt (J-D)

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a tough game to Jamesville-Dewitt with a score of 36-37. 

The Tigers were led by Kirsten Merritt (12 points) and Margaret Starr (11 points)

Jamesville-Dewitt was led by Ava Sandroni (16 points) and Aniyah Neal (15 points). 

With this loss, the Purple Tigers now hold a 10-3 record. 

Cortland’s next game is scheduled to be on the road against Lansing this Thursday (January 27th) at 7:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Fabius-Pompey (F-P)

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost 19-32 against Fabius-Pompey Tuesday night. 

With the loss, Cincinnatus has fallen to an overall record of 4-10. 

Cincinnatus was led by Carissa Schuyler (9 points) and Emma Finch (4 points). 

Fabius-Pompey was led by Miranda Putnam (11 points) and Jamie Ratliff (7 points). 

Up next, Cincinnatus is scheduled to take on Otselic Valley on the road this Friday (January 28th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Whitesboro

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles defeated Whitesboro 7-4 in order to improve to a 10-4 overall record. Cortland-Homer has been ranked #7 in the state for Division II since January 19th.

Cortland-Homer was led by Andrew Partigianoni (2 goals & 2 assists), Tanner Douglass (2 goals & 1 assist), Mitchell Riter (1 goal & 1 assist), Chris Yang (1 goal & 1 assist), Braden Marsh (1 goal), Ryan Spaulding (2 assists), Hunter Everle (1 assist), and Tucker Gabriel (1 assist).

Whitesboro was led by Frank Centro (1 goal & 1 assist), Josh Bono (1 goal & 1 assist), Logan Lachacz (1 goal & 1 assist), Santino Pedulla (1 goal), and Kaeden Wood (2 assists). 

Cortland-Homer goalies Riley Delage and Garret Clark combined for a total of 21 saves. Delage had 14 saves, while Clark made 7 saves. 

Whitesboro goalie Kristian Matthews made a total of 38 saves in the game. 

Up next, the Golden Eagles will host Oswego at the JM McDonald Sports Complex this Thursday (January 27th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Greene-Oxford

The Marathon Olympians lost 30-33 against Greene-Oxford Tuesday night.
