Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Basketball, Wrestling, & Volleyball (January 28th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Jamesville-Dewitt (J-D)

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a tough game to Jamesville-Dewitt with a score of 39-50 Friday night. 

This loss brings Cortland down to an overall record of 9-6. 

Cortland was led by Max Gambitta (20 points) and Emerson Johnson (7 points). 

Jamesville-Dewitt was led by Anthony Stickle (12 points), Aidan Bates (12 points), and Ian Delpha (10 points). 

Up next, Cortland will take on New Hartford on the road today (January 29th) at 3:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Bishop Ludden 

The Homer Trojans lost 49-67 against Bishop Ludden on the road Friday night. 

With this loss, the Trojans have fallen to a 5-9 overall record. 

Homer was led by Jon Barnes (12 points) and Evan Butts (10 points). 

Bishop Ludden was led by Jaiden Holloman (19 points), Tim Dunham (17 points), and Chad Cook (14 points). 

Homer’s next game will be on the road against Phoenix on Tuesday (February 1st) at 6:30pm.  

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Tioga

The Marathon Olympians lost a difficult game against Tioga on the road with a score of 38-62. 

This loss brings the Olympians down to a 3-10 overall record. 

The Olympians were led by Conor Holland (25 points) and Braeden Morrison (7 points)

Tioga was led by Evan Sickler (15 points), Gavin Fisher (13 points), Josh Reis (13 points), and Ethan Perry (13 points)

Up next, Marathon will play against Union Springs on the road this upcoming Tuesday (February 1st) at 7:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Tioga

The Marathon Olympians defeated Tioga 66-35 Friday night. 

During the game Marathon senior Brooke Tillotson became Marathon’s all-time leading scorer after scoring a career high of 50 points.

Up next, the now 12-2 Lady Olympians (#3 ranked in NYS Class D) will play today (January 29th) on the road against Ithaca at 3pm.

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Madison

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost 29-34 against Madison Friday night, bringing their overall record down to 2-7. 

The Lady Eagles were led by Heather Magee (10 points) and Hannah Wilson (8 points). 

Madison was led by Brianna Usborne (10 points) and Cameryn Stanfield (8 points).

McGraw’s next game will be against Otselic Valley on the road this upcoming Monday (January 31st) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions won a close game against Otselic Valley with a score of 29-26 in order to improve to a 5-10 record. 

Cincinnatus was led by Gabriella Taylor (8 points), Carissa Schuyler (5 points), and Kaedence Latta (5 points). 

Otselic Valley was led by Tori Foster (16 points) and Emily Miller (6 points). 

Up next, Cincinnatus will play Fabius-Pompey on the road on Monday (January 31st) at 6pm.

Varsity Wrestling: Cortland vs. Homer

The Homer Trojans came out victorious against Cortland after an exciting Cortland County matchup that ended with a team score of 51-12

Varsity Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley (SBV)

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated Stockbridge Valley (SBV) in four sets Friday night to improve to a 5-6 overall record.  

The Lions were led by Allyson St. Germain (12 kills, 8 digs & 5 aces), Caitlin St. Germain (4 kills, 3 digs, 16 assists & 1 ace), Jayda Mudge (3 kills, 1 block, 7 digs & 3 aces), and Kaylee Brenchley (6 kills & 2 digs). 

SBV was led by Ashley Wilson (4 kills, 5 digs & 13 assists), Paige Webb (4 digs, 12 assists & 3 aces), and Lisa Powless (8 kills, 8 digs & 10 aces). 

This was Cincinnatus' last game of the regular season.
