Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, January 30

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, January 30, 2022:

A weak area of high pressure will settle into the area today bringing quiet weather.

The best chance for a few flurries will be early this morning thanks to northwest winds over Lake Ontario. Any lake effect that does fly should be light with no real accumulation.

Winds will shift to the west and southwest during the morning, removing any lake effect from the area by mid-morning. The wind will remain from the west and southwest, but will scarcely be noticeable with speeds under 5 mph.

Sunshine will mix with clouds throughout the day. For the most part, it should be sunnier than cloudier.

Temperatures will remain on the cool side, though, with daytime highs in the mid and upper teens. After sunset, it will be a quick drop through the single digits and into the subzero regions.

However, winds will turn more southerly overnight and increase in speed to around 5 mph. That should slow the cooling and hold temperatures between 0 and -5 for much of the overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Monday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows just below 0. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Tuesday: Gradually increasing clouds. Morning lows near 10. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Wednesday: Rain and/or snow showers. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Thursday: Precipitation likely, but whether rain, snow, or ice too uncertain to tell. Temperatures likely somewhere in the 30s to low 40s.
