Cortland Weather Outlook: Saturday, February 5

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Saturday, February 5, 2022:

Some lingering lake effect snow this morning will give way to sunny skies as high pressure builds in.

Most of the snow showers this morning will be light, but it may come down steadily at times. With ideal snowflake growth conditions, it may not take a very heavy snow to accumulation a couple of inches.

The snow should come to an end by the midday or early afternoon at the latest. Skies will gradually clear with plenty of sunshine to end the day.

Clear skies will persist into the evening and through the overnight.

Winds will be from the northwest at 10-15 mph through much of the day. Top gusts could reach 30 mph.

Late in the day, the wind will turn more westerly and then go calm as high pressure moves in overhead.

After calm winds persist through the evening, south winds will pick up after midnight as the high slides east. 

Temperatures will be held down by the winds with highs near or just above 10 degrees. Wind chills during the daytime hours will be slightly below zero.

After nightfall, temperatures will quickly fall below zero, but the eventual south wind will slow the fall. Many areas will end up somewhere near -5, with overnight wind chills possibly as low as -20.

Monday: Sun and thin clouds. Morning lows near 15. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Tuesday: Sun and a few clouds. Morning lows near 10. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.

Wednesday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows near 15. Afternoon highs near 40.
