Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:
Varsity Wrestling: Homer vs. Multiple Schools (Section III Division II Championships)
The Homer Trojans participated in the Section III Division II Championships this past Saturday (February 12th).
Individual Highlights:
- 110: Talan Hubbard (Homer) won 1st place after beating Trevor Waugh (Beaver River) in the championship finals - Pin
- 215: Sam Sorenson (Homer) placed 1st after defeating Casey Bixby (Canastota) in the championship finals - Pin
- 118: Hunter Lines (Homer) placed 4th after losing to Patrick Grimsey (Lowville) in the consolation finals - Decision 6-0
- 215: Blair Wakula (Homer) came in 4th after losing to Dominic Jones (Mount Markham) in the consolation finals - Pin
- 285: Tayvn Malchak (Homer) placed 4th after losing to Andrew Morris (Holland Patent) in the consolation finals - Decision 4-0
- 189: Zander Johnson (Homer) came in 5th after winning against Keegan Crenshaw (Lowville) in the fifth place finals - Major Decision 9-0
Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Multiple Schools (Section IV Division II Championships)
The Marathon Olympians participated in the Section IV Division II Championships on Saturday (February 12th).
Individual Highlights:
- 285: Logan Jamison (Marathon) placed 3rd after beating Caleb Georgia (Lansing) in the consolation finals - Pin
- 152: Ethan Morrison (Marathon) came in 4th after losing to Anthony Mcmillen (Lansing) in the consolation finals - Decision 6-4
- 118: Brendan Gumaer (Marathon) placed 5th after winning the fifth place finals against Jerry Harman (Maine-Endwell) - Pin
- 138: Brittan Keller (Marathon) placed 5th after beating Ethan Dibble (Windsor) in the fifth place finals - Decision 5-2
- 189: Trevor Hurlbert (Marathon) came in 5th after defeating Garrett Ellis (Maine-Endwell) in the fifth place finals - Pin
Varsity Wrestling: Cortland vs. Multiple Schools (Section III Division II Championships)
The Cortland Purple Tigers participated in the Section III Division II Championships this past Saturday (February 12th).
No Cortland wrestlers were able to place in the tournament.
Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Oneonta
The Marathon Olympians lost a tough game against Oneonta on the road with a score of 33-62.
The Olympians were led by Conor Holland (13 points) and Zachary Birdsall (8 points).
Oneonta was led by Carter Mackey (19 points) and Owen Burnsworth (15 points).
With this loss, Marathon now holds a 5-13 record.
Up next, Marathon will take on Maine-Endwell on the road today (February 14th) at 5pm.
