Cortland Weather Outlook: Tuesday, February 15

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, February 15, 2022:

Two areas of high pressure are nearby this morning, one to our south and the other to the northwest. These two highs will move overhead today and merge over New England tonight.

Unsurprisingly, this will make for some varying winds today. Southwest winds early will turn to the northwest by midday with speeds of 5-10 mph.

The northwest winds will bring a chance for a few lake effect snow showers into the area. Little to no accumulation is expected.

Outside of any flurries, a little sun will be possible, especially early on this morning.

It will not be as cold as yesterday, but it will not warm up too quickly, either. Look for highs in the low to mid 20s this afternoon.

The wind will then go calm this evening as skies at least partially clear. Temperatures will take advantage of these conditions and take a quick drop into the upper or even mid single digits.

However, winds will then increase from the southeast, then south. By dawn Wednesday, wind speeds will be 10-15 mph with gusts over 30 mph, especially on the hilltops.

Temperatures will rise during the overnight as well, reaching 20 degrees by sunrise. Some thin clouds will also begin to move in during the predawn hours.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Wednesday: Sun and thin clouds early, then becoming mostly cloudy. Breezy. Morning lows near 20. Afternoon highs in the upper 30s to near 40.

Thursday: Increasing clouds. Rain showers late. Morning lows near 40. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Friday: Snow showers, mostly early on. Sun late. Morning temperatures in the mid 20s. Afternoon temperatures falling to the upper 10s.

Saturday: More clouds than sun with some light snow showers. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.
