Cortland County High School Sports Recaps: Boys & Girls Basketball (February 14th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated DeRuyter 50-38 in order to improve their overall record to 15-1. Cincinnatus has been ranked #7 in the state for Class D as of today (February 15th). 

Cincinnatus was led by Tyler Liddle (14 points), Scott Schuyler (13 points), Kooper Vosburg (7 points), and Cason Stafford (7 points). 

DeRuyter was led by Gavin Richardson (25 points) and Cameron Daley (5 points). This was Cincinnatus’ last scheduled game of the regular season. 

According to the Section III website, there will be a sectional playoff tournament seeding meeting on February 16th. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Central Square

The Cortland Purple Tigers won 59-52 against Central Square Monday night. 

With this win, the Tigers now hold a 11-9 record. 

Cortland was led by Max Gambitta (29 points), Tyler Blake (9 points), Benjamin McGrath (7 points), and Emerson Johnson (6 points). 

Central Square was led by Trevor Boyce (17 points) and Collin Kees (9 points). 

This was Cortland’s last game of the regular season. 

According to the Section III website, there will be a sectional playoff tournament seeding meeting on February 16th. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Manlius Pebble Hill (MPH)

The McGraw Eagles lost a tough game to Manlius Pebble Hill (MPH) with a score of 25-60. 

The Eagles were led by Nolan Knickerbocker (7 points) and Nick Sutton (6 points). 

MPH was led by James Wildhack (19 points) and Qon Ewing (12 points). 

With this loss, the Eagles have fallen to a 5-11 overall record. 

Up next, McGraw will play their last scheduled game of the regular season against Brookfield on the road tonight (February 15th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Maine-Endwell

The Marathon Olympians lost 34-54 against Maine-Endwell Monday night on the road. 

This loss brings Marathon down to an overall record of 5-14. 

Marathon was led by Conor Holland (22 points) and Kaiden Cornell (5 points). 

Maine-Endwell was led by Dominic L'Amoreaux (22 points) and Cullen Green (8 points). 

This was Marathon’s last scheduled game of the regular season. 

According to the Section IV website, there will be a sectional playoff tournament seeding meeting on February 16th. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Henninger

The Homer Lady Trojans lost a close game to Henninger on the road Monday night with a score of 53-59. Homer has been ranked #17 in the state for Class B as of today (February 15th). 

The Lady Trojans were led by Catherine Apker (23 points) and Gracie Patriarco (15 points). 

Henninger was led by Tayajah Scott (21 points) and Inese Odom (10 points). 

With this loss, the Lady Trojans now hold a 15-4 record. 

Up next, Homer will play their last game of the regular season against Cortland for a County rivalry game tonight (February 15th). The game will be played at Cortland High School, and is scheduled to start at 5pm.
