Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, February 16

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, February 16, 2022:

A frontal system stretching from the Great Lakes to Texas will run up against a strong high pressure system centered over the western Atlantic Ocean.

This high will keep our weather dry today, but gusty winds and a warm up will result from the pattern.

South winds began to develop overnight and will increase this morning as the sun climbs higher in the sky.

For most of the day and into the evening, wind speeds will be near 15 mph with gusts of 30-40 mph. The highest gusts will be over the higher elevations.

Warm air has already begun to move in on these south winds with temperatures rising overnight. Daytime high temperatures should make it to around 40 degrees.

It would possible be warmer if more sunshine was expected. However, clouds will be thick most of the day. The best chance for filtered sunshine will be during the morning hours.

With south winds persisting tonight, temperatures will push their way into the low 40s, perhaps after a brief dip into the upper 30s early this evening.

A stray rain shower cannot be ruled out after midnight, but for the most part, dry weather should be expected.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Thursday: Cloudy and breezy. Rain showers late. Morning lows near or just over 40. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Friday: Predawn ice turns to snow showers, which end by midday. Sun late. Morning temperatures in the mid 20s. Afternoon temperatures falling to around 20.

Saturday: More clouds than sun with some light snow showers. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Sunday: Lots of sun. Morning lows in the low 10s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.
