Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, February 23

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, February 23, 2022:

An early morning cold front will move through the area, bringing cooler air into the area.

After a mild overnight, temperatures will rapidly drop early this morning as the front moves through. By the mid-morning, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s.

The temperature will then hover in that range for the rest of the daylight hours. Once the sun begins to set tonight, temperatures will quickly fall again, reaching the mid 10s by midnight.

During the overnight, temperatures will once again hold steady, remaining in the mid 10s until dawn Thursday.

Clouds will be plentiful today. The best chance for a glimpse of sunshine will come late in the day.

Precipitation will be minimal today. A few rain showers will be possible this morning with and immediately behind the cold front. Some limited lake effect snow will develop for the midday and afternoon hours, but should be limited to a few snow showers from time to time. 

The chances for snow showers will diminish early in the evening. Total accumulations will be a dusting to perhaps a localized inch.

West winds this morning will turn to the northwest this afternoon and evening. The strongest winds will be between noon and midnight, with speeds up to 15 mph and gusts as high as 35 mph.

Thursday: Early clouds. Some afternoon sun. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs around 30.

Friday: Snow, possibly mixing with ice. Moderate accumulations possible. Morning lows around 20. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.

Saturday: Maybe a morning flurry. Then some sun. Morning lows around 10. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.

Sunday: Sun, some clouds, and perhaps a brief snow shower. Morning lows around 10. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.
