A man was arrested on March 17 in regards to a handful of warrants for him in the state of Florida, according to a recent City of Cortland Police report.

The report states that city police were notified by the State Attorney General’s Office in Florida that Christopher S. Chierchio, 41 of Port Watson Street, had a handful of felony/full extradition warrants in his name.

According to the report, the warrants issued on March 9 were for the following charges against Chierchio:

  • Second-degree traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sex (a felony)
  • Attempted lewd lascivious battery sex act (More than 12 years-of-age, but less than 16 years-of-age, the report notes)
  • And third-degree failure of sex offender to properly register in Florida

All warrants on Chierchio are from Florida, city detective lieutenant Dan Edwards said on Monday. He added that Chierchio has been living in an apartment in Cortland, and used to live in Florida “at one point.”

“He took off (from Florida) because he knew he was in trouble,” Edwards said.

Chierchio was arraigned and sent to Cortland County Jail. He is currently “waiting for extradition procedures,” the report states.
