A new dock at Dwyer Memorial Park could be coming soon to Little York Lake.

The Cortland County Legislature voted 15-1 at Thursday’s meeting to build a solid dock at the park next year for a cost not to exceed $100,000. The new dock will be accounted for in the 2023 county budget.

“That gets us a 60-feet-high by 20-feet-wide dock,” said Legislator Eugene Waldbauer (R-LD-13). “The County Highway Department will do the design.”

Legislator Linda Jones (R-LD-9) said the new dock would ultimately bring more people to the park.

“Our dock is dilapidated. It is not safe,” she said of the current dock.

For legislator Kelly Preston (R-LD-10) the funding for the project should come from a different source.

“I use the park, I am an advocate for the park,” she said. “I am floored that we are not going to use money from American Rescue Plan federal funds. This is the perfect place to use county ARP funds instead of putting it into the budget. It is taking it out of our savings account.”
