Two individuals were arrested this past Friday morning after they stole vehicles, according to a New York State Police report.

The first vehicle, driven by Ejarias J. Burgin, 20 of Camillus, was observed by a state trooper after he was seen speeding near Hoxie Gorge in the Town of Cortlandville.

The trooper stopped Burgin, but then “sped off,” the report notes. In the midst of Burgin fleeing, the trooper discovered that the vehicle was stolen.

Burgin proceeded to flee “through several roads” in the city of Cortland, the report states. He then “intentionally exited” the roadway into a field, where he struck a tree near McDonald Road in the Town of Homer.

Three individuals occupied the vehicle, and fled on foot into a wooded area following Burgin struck the tree. According to the report, a female was located in a cornfield near Pine Hill Trailer Park, and two males were located running behind the trailer park by a trooper and a city police officer.

Prior to the three individuals being taken into custody, another individual, Zaquest A. Robinson-Cummings, age 20 of Syracuse, attempted to pick the three individuals.

Robinson-Cummings, also discovered to be in a stolen vehicle, was spotted by a Cortland County Sheriff’s deputy and proceeded to flee the scene. Robinson-Cummings was stopped on Interstate-81 near exit 13 in Tully.

Burgin was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property (a Class-D Felony) and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle (a misdemeanor). Robinson-Cummings was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property (a Class-D Felony).

The other two unidentified individuals, both 18 years of age, were not charged.

Troopers from Troop C were assisted by members from Troop D, a Troop D Bloodhound, an unmanned aerial system (drone), the chief, officers and a K-9 from city police, the chief and officers from Homer police, County Sheriff’s Deputies, CNY Towing and Kaylee’s Towing.
