Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (December 2nd)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Skaneateles

The Homer Lady Trojans lost in the first round of this year’s Jessica M. Beal Memorial Basketball Tournament against Skaneateles with a score of 41-57. 

Homer was led by Catelyn Ensign (16 points), Elia Spanbauer (9 points), and Catherine Apker (7 points). 

Skaneateles was led by Maddy Ramsgard (21 points) and Ayla Pas'cal (19 points). 

Homer was scheduled to play the consolation game of the tournament against LaFayette at 10am this morning (December 3rd). A recap of the game will be available on The Cortland Voice website on Sunday (December 4th).

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Otselic Valley

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost their first game of the regular season with a close score of 33-37 Friday night. 

McGraw was led by Allie West (18 points) and Lexi McCall (5 points).

Otselic Valley was led by Cassidy Will (15 points) and Tori Foster (12 points). 

Up next, McGraw will play Madison at home on Friday (December 9th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Oxford Academy

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost a tough game to Oxford Academy with a score of 34-43 at home. 

With this loss, Marathon now holds an overall record of 1-1. 

Marathon was led by Abigail Ensign (15 points) and Addison Oram (7 points).

Oxford Academy was led by Madalyn Barrows (17 points) and Taegan Manwarren (9 points). 

Marathon will now host Whitney Point Senior on Tuesday (December 6th) at 7:15pm.

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Pulaski

The McGraw Eagles started their regular season off with a win over Pulaski Friday night. McGraw won the game with a score of 64-52. 

“I think the first game jitters were there for everyone, but I was pretty pleased with how hard we played,” said McGraw Head Coach Jamey Crumb. “Gaven shot very well in the first half, and Jaydon was huge defensively grabbing 19 rebounds. We had to work through some foul trouble, and I was happy with how they responded.” 

McGraw was led by Gaven Truman (23 points, 6 assists & 2 rebounds), Nick Sutton (12 points, 2 assists, 5 rebounds & 1 steal), and Jaydon Bassett (9 points, 19 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 block). 

Note: Individual stats for Pulaski were not available by the time this article was written. 

Up next, McGraw will play Otselic Valley on the road this upcoming Monday (December 5th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Syracuse Institute of Technology Central (ITC)

The Homer Trojans lost 54-72 against Syracuse Institute of Technology Central (ITC) on the road Friday night. 

With this loss, Homer now holds an 0-2 record.

Homer is scheduled to host Westhill on Monday (December 5th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Ogdensburg

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles defeated Ogdensburg in the first round of the Ogdensburg Tournament with a score of 3-1. 

Cortland-Homer was led by Mitchell Riter (1 goal & 1 assist), Hunter Everle (1 goal & 1 assist), Andrew Partigianoni (2 assists), Cooper Swartz (1 goal), Brady Coffin (1 assist), Tucker Gabriel (1 assist), and Garret Clark (20 saves). 

Ogdensburg was led by Tyler Sovle (1 goal) and Dylan Irvin (1 assist).

Cortland-Homer was scheduled to play the following round of the tournament against Thousand Islands at 11am this morning. A recap of the game will be available on The Cortland Voice website this upcoming Monday (December 5th).
