Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (December 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

The Cortland Purple Tigers won their first regular game of the season against County rival Homer at home Wednesday night. 

Cortland won the game with a close score of 39-36. 

With this result, Homer has fallen to an overall record of 0-3, while Cortland now holds a 1-0 record. 

Cortland was led by Carter Baum (13 points), Benjamin McGrath (10 points), and Caden Albright (6 points). 

Homer was led by Evan Butts (16 points), Tyler Van Etten (6 points), and Max Franco (4 points).

Up next, Cortland will play on the road against Marcellus on Wednesday (December 14th) at 7pm, while Homer hosts Syracuse Academy of Science on Tuesday (December 13th) at 7pm.

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs Utica Academy of Science

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost a tight game against Utica Academy of Science with a final score of 36-39. 

With this loss, Cincinnatus has fallen to an 0-2 record. 

Cincinnatus was led by Cortney Scutt (23 points) and Emma Finch (9 points). 

Note: individual stats for Utica Academy of Science were not available by the time this article was written. 

Cincinnatus is now scheduled to play on the road against LaFayette this Saturday (December 10th) at 11am. 

Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Newark Valley

The Marathon Olympians lost to Newark Valley with an overall team score of 24-43 Wednesday evening.
