Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (December 20th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Oswego

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles defeated Oswego 8-0 Tuesday night. 

With this win, Cortland-Homer improved their unbeaten record to 5-0. 

Cortland-Homer was led by Mitch Riter (1 goal & 2 assists), Andrew Partigianoni (2 goals & 4 assists), Chris Yang (2 goals & 1 assist), Cooper Swartz (1 goal & 1 assist), Hunter Everle (2 goals & 5 assists), and Tucker Gabriel (2 assists). 

Cortland-Homer goalie Garret Clark made 16 saves in the game, while Riley Wallace and Tanner Palmitesso combined to make 25 saves for Oswego.

“The team had another solid effort tonight,” said Cortland-Homer Head Coach Paul Quinlan. “We scored some really pretty goals, but our commitment to defense and the little details of the game is what I am happiest with. We blocked several more shots tonight, which has been a real positive trend for us this year. Garret got a shutout, which is always great for the goalies.”

Up next, Cortland-Homer is scheduled to play Auburn on the road this Friday (December 23rd) at 6pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Fowler

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Fowler with a score of 58-45 in order to improve their overall record to 2-1. 

Cortland was led by Benjamin McGrath (22 points), Emerson Johnson (13 points), and Antonio Terrazas (10 points). 

Fowler was led by Spencer Wellington (11 points) and Jayderr Wilhite (9 points). 

Up next, Cortland will host Lansing at the annual “Cortland Holiday Tournament” on Wednesday (December 28th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost a tough game against Stockbridge Valley with a score of 27-39 on the road Tuesday night. 

With this loss, McGraw has fallen to an 0-3 record.

McGraw was led by Lexi McCall (9 points) and Madison Sweeney (6 points).

Stockbridge Valley was led by Alissa Mazzye (11 points), Layla Jayson (9 points), and Marlie Brummer (9 points).

McGraw is now scheduled to play Cincinnatus on the road this Friday (December 23rd) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Union Springs

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost 28-76 against Union Springs on the road Tuesday night.

With this loss, Marathon now holds a 4-3 record. 

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign with 13 points in the game.

Up next, Marathon will play Lansing at home on Tuesday (December 27th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Volleyball: McGraw vs. Fabius Pompey

The McGraw Eagles fell to an 0-5 record after losing to Fabius Pompey on Tuesday. 

The Eagles lost in three straight sets.
