Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (December 22nd)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Solvay

The Homer Lady Trojans improved to a 2-5 record after beating Solvay with a score of 56-20. 

Homer was led by Catherine Apker (18 points) and Amanda Rood (16 points).

Solvay was led by Neonna Turk (7 points) and Shay'Eanna Turk (6 points).

Up next, Homer is scheduled to host Chenango Valley on Wednesday (December 28th) at 12:45pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Chenango Valley

The Cortland Lady Tigers beat Chenango Valley 35-32 Thursday night. 

With this win, Cortland now holds a 5-1. 

Cortland was led by Claire Turner (14 points) and Mallory Turner (11 points). 

Chenango Valley was led by Maddi Trisket (13 points) and Madelyn Hayes (7 points).

Cortland is now scheduled to play on the road against Whitney Point on Wednesday (December 28th) at 11:45am.  

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The McGraw Eagles defeated DeRuyter 64-59 on the road Thursday night. 

McGraw was led by Gaven Truman (33 points) and Nick Sutton (17 points).

DeRuyter was led by Ryder Forrest (25 points) and Cameron Barnes (10 points).

With this result, McGraw improved their unbeaten record to 5-0.

Up next, McGraw will play on the road against Cato-Meridian on Thursday (December 29th) at 1:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to an 0-4 record after losing to Stockbridge Valley with a final score of 39-49. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (11 points) and Jack Stafford (10 points).

Stockbridge Valley was led by Nick Hofmeister (15 points) and Evan Enslow (14 points).

Cincinnatus’ next game will be on the road next Wednesday (December 28th) against Morrisville-Eaton at 5:30pm.  

Varsity Indoor Track & Field: Homer vs. Multiple Teams (It’s About Time Invitational at SUNY Cortland)

The Homer Trojans competed in the “It’s About Time Invitational” at SUNY Cortland Thursday evening.

Here are some highlights from both the Homer boys’ and girls’ teams: 

Homer Boys

  • Cooper Van Dee won 1st place in the 300 meter run (Time - 41.01)
  • Nick Costa placed 2nd in the 300 meter run (Time - 41.94). He also came in 3rd place in the 55 meter dash (Time - 7.36)
  • Jonah Campos placed 2nd in the shot put event (Result - 37’0.75”)
  • Damian Brown (30.5), Nick Costa (26.0), Tristyn Henkel (29.2), and Cooper Van Dee (25.2) came in 4th place in the 4x200 meter relay with an official time of 1:50.99
  • Damian Brown placed 4th in the 1,600 meter run (Time - 5:36.31)
  • Dylan Pittsley tied for 6th place in the long jump event (Result - 15’ 7.25”)

Homer Girls

  • Camdyn Cole won 1st place in the triple jump event (Result - 34’2.25”). Her jump tied the school record and qualified her for Sectionals as well as the State Qualifiers. She also placed 5th in the long jump event (Result - 13’10.75”)
  • Jane Gugerty (28.9), Camdyn Cole (28.6), Caitlin McCloy (29.9), and Ingrid Aagaard (28.5) won 1st place in the 4x200 meter relay with an official time of 1:56.09.
  • Ingrid Aagaard placed 2nd in the 300 meter run (Time - 47.52) and the 600 meter run (Time - 1:53.36)
  • Jane Gugerty placed 3rd in the 55 meter hurdles (Time - 9.68) as well as in the long jump event (Result - 14’8.25”)
  • Emma Effinger placed 4th in the 300 meter run (Time - 49.13)
  • Hannah Bouwens placed 6th in the shot put event (Result - 21’9.25”)

Varsity Indoor Track & Field: Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (It’s About Time Invitational at SUNY Cortland)

The Marathon Olympians competed in the “It’s About Time Invitational” at SUNY Cortland.

Here are some highlights from both the Marathon boys’ and girls’ teams: 

Marathon Boys

  • Landon Barnhart placed 5th in the 600 meter run (Time - 1:45.09)

Marathon Girls

  • Abigail Trabucco won 1st place in the pole vault event (Result - 8’0”). She also came in 2nd in the 1,500 meter run (Time - 5:53.86) and finished 3rd in the 300 meter run (Time - 48.01)
  • Abigail Edsall placed 6th in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 3:55.47)
  • Rylee Thomas finished 6th in the 1,500 meter run (Time - 6:37.64)
