Today will be, by far, the coldest day our area has experienced since last winter.

Strong southwest winds will continue to blow cold air into the region. Afternoon highs will be locked away in the mid and upper single digits.

Wind gusts will be 35-45 mph this morning, lessening to 30-40 mph this afternoon and up to 30 mph this evening.

Wind chills will be hazardous this morning with values locally under -20. Daytime wind chills will remain below -10 much of the time.

The temperature will hold steady this evening and overnight. With the reduction in wind speeds, wind chills will moderate slightly, but may still dip to -10 at times.

There should not be too much in the way of snowfall, with just a few occasional snow showers. Little to no snow accumulation is expected.

Nonetheless, travel conditions will still be less than idea. The cold temperatures and strong winds will keep roads snowy and visibility low.  Allow for extra time to reach your destination.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Snow showers likely with some light accumulation. Blowing and drifting snow. Morning lows in the mid 0s. Afternoon highs in the upper 10s.

Monday: A few snow showers. Otherwise, just cloudy and not as windy. Morning lows in the mid 0s. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.

Tuesday: A few flurries. Morning lows in the upper 0s. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.

Wednesday: More clouds than sun. Morning lows in the upper 0s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.
